About The Vocal Alumni Concert Series

Purpose

To give alumni the opportunity to give back through performance or service and share experience with the Music Education, General Music, and Vocal Performance Majors in the Vocal Division of David L. Walter’s Music Department of Jacksonville State University.

Description

Vocal Alumni will have the opportunity to share their talents in a benefit concert for the Richard Armstrong Award, which will be given during the Alumni Benefit concert. The Richard Armstrong Award will be an unrestricted monetary award for one Music Education, General Music, or Vocal Performance Major in the Vocal Division of David L. Walter’s Music Department.

Jarrod Lee hails from Sylacauga, Alabama.  Opera Today says Jarrod has a "rich baritone voice that seems to glide effortlessly through even the most demanding passages..." Jarrod earned a Masters of Music from the Maryland Opera Studio, where he studied voice with Dominic Cossa.  Jarrod was a featured soloist for President Barack Obama during the First Family's visit to the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in D.C.  Some of his operatic roles include Joe Louis in the world premier of Shadowboxer, an opera based on the life of Joe Louis, and Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Maryland Opera Studio, The Duke/Capulet cover in Romeo et Juliette with the Chesapeake Chamber Opera, Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Baltimore Concert Opera, Captain/Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, and Dulcamara in L'Elisir D'Amore with M.O.S, Jailer in Tosca with the Summer Opera Theatre Company, Sergeant in La Boheme with Opera Birmingham.
